Clothing and Textile Advisors (CTA's)

The CTA program began in 1983 in Pierce County with 20 members. Pierce County's membership has grown to nearly 300 and there are now CTA groups in at least eight other Washington State counties. Clothing and Textile Advisors share a common interest in clothing, textiles and related fields. The CTA program is a Master's program, comparable to the Master Gardener program. CTA's are committed to learning, sharing with others and keeping up with new research and technology. They act as community resource persons, 4-H leaders, and assist in other areas, such as local alternative schools, military outreach, and 4-H summer sewing schools.

What's in it for the volunteer? CTA's not only receive subject matter training, they are given the opportunity to learn a variety of other skills, such as leadership, computer use, sales training, communication and teaching methods. These volunteers can test their new skills in a "safe" setting, with peers. Many become employed or start their own businesses as a result of their training.
