Quilters Night Out by Janome
Hot Fuser Chicks - Frieda Anderson & Laura Wasilowski
$25
Saturday, March 2, 6:30 pm
Expo Runway, Pavilion 2nd Floor
Laura Wasilowski and Frieda Anderson will be bringing ART QUILTING to this year’s Quilter’s Night OUT. Frieda says, “I came to art quilts as a traditional quilter – I started fusing because I wanted to make my own designs and take any image I had and transfer it into my artwork. Everybody fuses…we just do it a different way. We are not making bed quilts – they’re raw edge fused – it’s easy and it’s fun…and it’s a different way to work.
In the early days, when using a fusible to transfer a design….we were taught to apply the fusible, leaving the paper backing on, draw on the paper, which meant you always had to REVERSE your design. Laura and I have a way of transferring the designs so you never have to reverse the designs.”
Another exciting element to this year’s Quilter’s Night OUT is that both Laura and Frieda hand-dye their fabrics to create a more intense color not available from commercial fabrics. But instead of doing the traditional fabric dying (by dipping in a bucket) – they “flat dye” – so they grade from one color to another. These dying techniques can create somewhat of a water color affect – with one color merging with another – and it gives a lot more movement.
Janome, the sponsor of the 2013 Quilter’s Night OUT – will be giving away a FABULOUS sewing machine as a door prize – AND Laura and Frieda will each be providing a special door prize during the event -- one of their patterns WITH a hand-dyed fabric kit.
